Can't Install Themes, Help!!!
I Have A Really Big Problem. You See.. This Is My 2nd Day Using Red Hat Linux 9, And I;ve Been Seeing Some Really Cool Themes On The Internet That Can Be installed, I Go To Hat --> Preferences --> Theme.
When i Click "INSTALL THEME" I Select The TAR/GZ File, Install It But Nothing Happens.. The New Theme Doesn't Appear, Why is this? Do I Need To Install Something New? Or Am I Doing Something Wrong? Please If You Know How To Correct This Problem Or Have Any Other Suggestions please Tell Me, I Will Apreciatte Your Help.. Thanks BTW, I'm Using Gnome... (Maybe That Will Specify my Problem better) |
You need to unzip the theme first. Do this:
tar xzvf whatever.tar.gz Then cd into the directory it created, and located the gnome theme. That's what you need to tell gnome to install. |
ok, i unzipped it, but what do you mean by telling the gnome to install it.. if so, how?
|
When before, you selected the *.tar.gz file, select the actual theme now.

i dont understand, please explained me detailed. this is my 2nd day. show me how yould YOU do it, step by step

I to am having the same problem only with kde. Afrer unzipping KDE still does not seem to recognize any of the unziped componets as a theme file.
|
In Gnome with RH9 usually you don't need to unzip the themes. At least, I never have.
What I did find though was that I would install the theme and it would look like nothing had happened, but if I went into the themes details (still in the Gnome theme selector tool) I could find the individual parts. Try that. -dave |
Go to preferences > Theme > Install Theme > them find the theme you downloaded click install. If its not listed in the list there then click details and find it there and run it from details. when it installs it does not run it it just makes it available.

I Am having the same problem as well, but they don't even appear in details either. :(
