Can't install RHEL5.4 on P4 machine
Hi all,
I have P4 system with following configuration P4-3.0 GHz RAM-1GB Hdd-80GB Intel Original 945 motherboard With this configuration i am not able proceed my RHEL 5.4 installation in graphic mode after initialization normal graphic startx process starts and then display suddenly gone. I just wanted to know is that a problem with installation DVD or there is any setting in BIOS. If anybody has any idea about this please reply me. and get back to me if require any more details. Thanx. |
Check your video memory. I had once P4 which had the same problem and it resolved by increasing video shared memory.

Some "pentium 4" computers, like Dell GX-260 have a Graphics
chip ( Intel + a 'sub device' ) that only a few Linux will like. What is your computer name ? And may be show the output of the command : lspci -vnn | grep -iA 8 vga Your issues can also be a monitor problem. .. |

did you try text install before messing around with graphical installation? min. required video ram is 1MB. |

Why EL 5.4 ? Redhat would not supply an old version.
Current is EL 5.5. And if you have no support contract with Redhat, you will not get the full functionality. How about the free version of EL 6.
