Can't install qt or kdevelop
Have just downloaded and installed Mandrake 10.1 Official (3 CD) version, dual booting with Windows XP Home. Installation went fine and successfully updated with the latest security fixes.
I now want to install some development tools such as Qt Designer and KDevelop. However when I attempt to install libqt3-devel-3.3.3-27.1.101mdk in the Mandrake Control Centre I get:
====================================
Sorry the following package(s) can't be selected:
libqt3-devel-3.3.3-27.1.101mdk.i586 (due to usatisfied devel(libXrender))
====================================
I don't have a libXrender package available? So I tried installing libxorg-x11-devel-6.7.0-4.3.101mdk but got the error:
====================================
Sorry the following package(s) can't be selected:
libxorg-x11-devel-6.7.0-4.3.101mdk.i586 (due to usatisfied devel(libfreetype))
====================================
I tired downloading and installing the following packages from RPMFind but couldn't do so due to conflicts with libxorg-x11-6.7.0-4.3.101mdk
libxfree86-devel-4.3-30mdk.i586.rpm
libxfree86-static-devel-4.3-30mdk.i586.rpm
XFree86-libs-4.3-8.2mdk.i586.rpm

Configure more software sources using the instructions at easyurpmi (include an update source as well). Once thats done, do as root "urpmi --auto-select" and all installed packages should be updated. Once thats done try installing kdevelop and qt designer.

Thanks for your reply.
I followed the instructions and after one or two problems have managed to get Qt up and running. KDevelop is still proving a little problematic though. After overcoming problems with dependency on emacs and bad signatures I keep getting a problem installing libkdecore4-devel3.2.3-105.1.101mdk.i586.rpm. The message is
There was a problem during the installation: ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 19 or signal 0
It's getting too late...will try again tomorrow.
Thanks once again.

You may need to add more mirrors or use different ones if you keep getting such errors.

After a lot of trying out different mirrors, clearing the urpmi cache I am close to getting KDevelop installed. All the dependencies seem to have installed OK. However when I try to select the kdevelop-3.0.4-15mdk package I get the message
"Sorry the following package(s) can't be selected: kdevelop-3.0.4-15mdk"
I tried downloading this package from rpmfind and upon attempting to install I get the message:
"Everything already installed"
But I can't see KDevelop anywhere? Any ideas?
Many thanks

It should be in the menu somewhere under development tools. You can check whether its installed by running "kdevelop &" in a console. If it runs okay, then its installed and if its not installed some sort of error e.g. "command not found" will be printed to the screen.

Run the command below to check if kdevelop is indeed installed on your system,
Code:
$rpm -qa | grep -i kdevelop
If its installed, the installed version will be printed onscreen. If it isn't then nothing will show up. If it is installed, you can find the exact location of the executable by doing "whereis kdevelop".

Hi,
The output from the command above is...
[mark@localhost mark]$ rpm -qa | grep -i kdevelop
libkdevelop3-3.0.4-15mdk
libkdevelop3-devel-3.0.4-15mdk
[mark@localhost mark]$ whereis kdevelop
kdevelop: /usr/include/kdevelop
[mark@localhost mark]$
...but I don't seem to have an executable. The directory /usr/include/kdevelop just contains C header files. Seems like the libraries are installed but not kedevelop itself? Do you think I should remove libkdevelop3-3.0.4-15mdk and libkdevelop3-devel-3.0.4-15mdk then try installing the kdevelop rpm again?
Reddazz - your help is much appreciated.
Cheers
