When you plug it in, look at your dmesg output, the device will be logged. Can I also ask what distro you are using?

Cheers,

When I plug in a USB drive, this appears on my dmesg output:

Code:
usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
scsi9 : usb-storage 1-3:1.0
scsi 9:0:0:0: Direct-Access OCZ DIESEL PMAP PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS
sd 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] 7831552 512-byte logical blocks: (4.00 GB/3.73 GiB)
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 23 00 00 00
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
 sdb: sdb1
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
From this you can tell that the drive is /dev/sdb.
