Can't host server with firewall, but can with router, could use help please
Well if you couldn't tell by the subject, I had a hard time figuring out what to put as the subject. Basically my question is, when I try to use my firewall to host a game server, no one can see it on the master server list but when I use my router, everyone can. I am opening up exactly both the same ports on my router and firewall, so I don't get why it will not work properly with the firewall. This also happens on windows too when I try to host a server of any game. The firewall seems to be way more restrictive than the router. I know I should probably have posted this in the games forum, but the question is a bit more general than that since I am trying to figure out what the key security and settings differences are between the firewall and router. I noticed that I can load up a lot more programs through my router without having to open ports than with the firewall, such as instant messaging. This seems a bit strange to me but I'm guessing that router has default ports already opened? I did do a test at grc.com to see if ports were open on my router and it said all were stealth, so I'm really just wondering what the story is behind all of this. Thanks for your time. Take care.
