Can't get Treo 700p to communicate/sync with FC10

Hi,

I recently installed Fedora Core 10 and I am having problems getting my Palm Treo 700p to sync with JPilot. When I plug the Treo in I see the following devices in /var/log/messages.

Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=0830, idProduct=0061
Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,SerialNumber=5
Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: Product: Palm Handheld
Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Palm, Inc.
Jun 9 16:10:45 gpg3 kernel: usb 2-2: SerialNumber: PalmSN12345678

When I list the most recent devices in /dev/ I get the following.

total 0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root tty 5, 2 2009-06-09 18:25 ptmx
crw-rw---- 1 root root 250, 46 2009-06-09 18:24 usbdev4.2_ep07
crw-rw---- 1 root root 250, 45 2009-06-09 18:24 usbdev4.2_ep86
crw-rw---- 1 root root 250, 44 2009-06-09 18:24 usbdev4.2_ep02
crw-rw---- 1 root root 250, 43 2009-06-09 18:24 usbdev4.2_ep81
crw-rw---- 1 root root 250, 47 2009-06-09 18:24 usbdev4.2_ep00

It looks like /dev/ptmx is the port for the Treo, but when I use this to setup the Treo in JPilot and gnome-pilot there appears to be no communication with the Treo. I press the sync button on the Treo and then click sync on JPilot and I get the following.

****************************************
Syncing on device /dev/ptmx
Press the HotSync button now
****************************************

I also tried using pilot-xfer.

gpgl:tmp> pilot-xfer -p /dev/ptmx -l

Listening for incoming connection on /dev/ptmx...

and it never responds. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is wrong? Do I have to add rules to udev?
