can't get mozilla to play .wmv files with mplayerplug-in

hi

as the title states mplayerplug-in dosn't start for .wmv or asx,asx files.
however It works ok for mpeg files in mozilla

When a .wmv file is encountered it tries to embed gxine into the webpage with instead of mplayer.
when i do help+about+plugins in mozilla it shows the plugin installed and avtive with the right associations for the correct suffixes etc?
any ideas?
ta

ps

it works fine with konquer

/etc/mplayerplug-in.conf

some websites make imbedded multimedia work only for MS-Windows && Internet Explorer && Windows Media Player ONLY, just shows the shortsightedness of the webmasters, i have sent nasty emails to many webmasters telling them of this great injustice to the WorldWideWeb...

yeah.. i have had similar probs with non standard web content;ie non standard html code etc..which has upset mozilla/netscape and the like..

in this case though I'm not sure that thia is the issue as I can play said content in konqueror?!!

anyway.

I have made some progress and can now play quicktime/avi's etc with either mplayerplug-in.so or using mplayer as a helper application

however I am having problem with a particular site that states that I need the appropriate plugin.

mozilla says the media is of type applaication/x-mplayer2 and that I need an appropriate plugin to view it.

However when I look at the http header that the site is sending me,the content type is application/vnd.ms.wms-hdr.asfv1.

I have now put both mimes in /etc/mplayerplug-in.types,but mozilla still gives me the same error

ok..

found this with ngrep when the content works ok..
Code:
.wmv">.......... <param name="ShowStatusBar" value="false">.......... <param name=
  "DefaultFrame" value="mainFrame">.......... <embed type="application/x-mplayer2
so it seems mplayerplug-in.so will now work with this?!??
