Can't get k3b to work
Hi all,
I am running Mdk 9.1 on HP zt1195 laptop with dvd/cd-rw combo drive. I am tried copying audio and data cd's but get the following errors - cdrdao ----------------------- Cdrdao version 1.1.7 - (C) Andreas Mueller <andreas@daneb.de> SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables. Using libscg version 'andreas-0.5-UNIXWARE_Patch' 0,0,0: SONY CD-RW CRX810E Rev: 1.0a ERROR: No driver found for 'SONY CD-RW CRX810E', available drivers: cdd2600 generic-mmc generic-mmc-raw plextor plextor-scan ricoh-mp6200 sony-cdu920 sony-cdu948 taiyo-yuden teac-cdr55 toshiba yamaha-cdr10x For all recent recorder models either the 'generic-mmc' or the 'generic-mmc-raw' driver should work. Use option '--driver' to force usage of a driver, e.g.: --driver generic-mmc ERROR: Cannot setup device 0,0,0. I also added the --driver generic-mmc option but didn't help. xcdroast works fine. Any suggestions please. Thanks, Senthil |
In K3b, select Settings->Configure K3b and click on the Devices icon. Under your combo drive's listing for Cdrdao driver, click the drop-down box, select 'generic-mmc' for the driver and click OK. (You'll probably find that it was set to 'auto' before this).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. There is no drop down list under the drive. In fact, my CD-rw doesn't get listed under 'Reader'. It is there only under 'Writer'. All the parametres under 'Writer' for my drive looks fine. I tried adding --driver generic-mmc for cdrdao. It errors out saying illegal option while trying to write to a cd. Senthil |
if you are using a newer version of k3b, there still is a dropdown menu in the setup, you just have to click on where it says 'auto' beside your burner, it doesn't look like there is a menu, but there is one there. I'm not sure if it would work at all the way you did it the terminal. Try in the k3b setup again.
are you using a bootloader? do you have scsi enabled? |
Absolutely, scsi is enabled. In fact, I could use xcdroast perfectly fine. Just that k3b looks better am trying that.
Shall check for newer versions of k3b. But according to the error it looks like it doesn't work with the Sony cd-rw that I have. But again it works with xcdroast which on the backend would use the same processes as k3b. Cheers, Senthil |
try running k3b as root once and then log into your user account, I remember I needed to do that with a couple of installs.

My version of K3b is 0.8.1. If yours is the same (or close) you should be able to change the Cdrdao driver in K3b settings. In K3b, select Settings->Configure K3b and click on the Devices icon. It appears that your combo drive will be listed under Writer. In the right pane, if there is a '+' box next to the name, click it to expand the listing. Look for a value of Cdrdao driver. It will appear as just text, but if you click on it, it turns into a rectangle around it with a drop-down icon at the right of the rectangle. click the drop-down icon, select 'generic-mmc' for the driver and click OK.
