Can't get client authentication working with postfix

Hello!

I'm trying to set up a postfix server - it will be used to send alerts out from an access control system for certain event triggers. The server doesn't need to be able to receive mail, so there's no IMAP or POP3 server installed. I'm trying to follow this guide to allow client authentication with Postfix:

http://postfix.state-of-mind.de/patr...ilclients.html

but I can't actually get it to work. When I try to telnet to the server over port 25 and give it my credentials via the AUTH PLAIN command, I get 535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed: authentication failure

Here's my main.cf: https://pastebin.com/f7NjWeF1

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

That howto says nothing about setting up the Cyrus-SASL it is pointing postfix at.

You are usually better off using Postfix docs.

OK, I've gone through that guide and I'm still getting the error message about authentication that I originally reported. I did notice, however, that I'm not getting a
Code:
250-AUTH DIGEST-MD5 PLAIN CRAM-MD5
reply, but rather a
Code:
250-AUTH DIGEST-MD5 NTLM CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN
. Could I have still missed something?

If you can't provide any better info than that, go back and read that postfix link a couple more times.
