Can't find a CLI utility

I've Googled what I remember to be its name from hell to breakfast (rdjpegcomm). I even put "Sourceforge" in the search string. I know I was using it as recently as '14, so how could it have so completely disappeared?

Any clues? I remember it was a standalone based on code from either one of the Magicks or Exiftool (what I like to call a "rip"), more than likely the former since it was as fast as jhead.

I hope somebody else remembers it. All I know for dead certian is that it isn't installed in my system.

You forgot to tell us what it's supposed to do, but it sounds like
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rdjpeg/

Sounds like the one. The utility I was looking for simply printed the JPEG comment to stdout. If that's what rdjpeg does, then it's definitely the one.

It wasn't.

It was rdjpegcom in libjpeg-turbo-tools, which was already installed on my system.

You can use ImageMagick's 'identify' command too:

Code:
identify -verbose tree.jpg | grep comment

 comment: CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v80), quality = 95

Lost it somehow. Probably when something else orphaned or outdated was purged. Anyone have a deb file of it?

# apt-get install libjpeg-turbo-progs

It's in debian jessie. So:

packages.debian.org

If you don't use that distro. It looks like rdjpegcom does what you want. Imagemagicks identify does it too. File might also work, although probably not for specs. avprobe/ffprobe might also work. Lots of ways.
