Can't create new menu folder with Nautilus

I have installed Red Hat 9 and I have propably later updated nautilus to version 2.2.1. I am using custom build kernel 2.6.7. My troubles are following...

In upper right corner of nautilus there is a dropdown menu which has two choices
View as list
View as icons.

I can't launch applications with nautilus if View as list is selected. View as icons style works and double clicking starts application associated with filetype.

I want to add new launcher to my menu. Copying a launcher shows this
Error "Unsupported operation" while copying. Would you like to continue ?
Choices are skip,cancel or retry.

If I try to create new folder to
applications:///Internet menu I get this
Error "Unsupported operation" creating new folder.

Creating new folder for example /root directory works fine.
For Fedora core 2 users Red Hat released a patch that just prevent creating new manu items like launchers. I am unsure if my nautilus has also been patched.

Any body has any suggestion ?

Update to my nautilus problems.

I can't get new applications to view filetypes for root user. For example I can add acrobat reader as an application to view pdf files for a submenu that opens when clicking with right mouse button.

But normal user can add different apps for different filetypes.

Normal user unfortunately can't launch applications with double clicking when folders are viewed as a list. View as icons works.

Also normal user can't add new application launchers to menu.

Any suggestions ( other than reinstalling )?
