Can't connect to the internet no eth0 interface.

Hi
I have dsl and slackware 12.1/win xp dual boot.

For some I can't connect to the internet through Slackware.
I was connected last night.
I tried
ifconfig eth0 up
ifconfig eth1 up

With ifconfig I only see the loopback.

For the sake of trying, I also tried dhcpcd eth0 up but since there is no interface, I figure it is a vain attempt.

BTW I do have internet connection via the xp partition.

Hi there,

It might a stupid question to ask you, but have you check if your eth0 is setup to determine the IP address automatically. It might be your problem, if it fixes and IP address that is not yours.

It's a long shot, but worth a try.

It is not a stupid question and I appreciate the response.

I don't know what the problem was. It seems to be working now.
As I said, I had internet connection last night. I had it this morning on my xp partition, but not on slackware partition. I rebooted and it still did not work. Later, I rebooted again and now it does work.
I checked the cables and nothing seems to be loose.

Im wondering if my hd is about to crash.
I have a few other weird problems with things not working consistently.
