can't burn isos

Hi there
when i do:
Code:
$cdrecord dev=/dev/hda filename.iso
I get the output:
Code:
cdrecord: Unspecified command not implemented for this drive.
cdrecord: Cannot get next writable address.
I'm using ubuntu on my laptop and want to burn the iso of the latest release.
Also k3b is not found when i try to install it with apt-get.
Would it be the same as a completely new install if i did?:
Code:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude upgrade
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
So how do i burn isos with cdrecord?.Should i manually update with the previous commands or should i try to install from the iso?
Thank you for any replies

sudo apt-get install cdrecord
( or use aptitude, if that is your usual tool.)

cdrecord -v -pad speed=1 dev=0,0,0 <file.iso>

Hehe...no problem. I left off the dev= switch, because it could vary...posted the link instead, but your post is a bit more concise.
