Question Can't boot windows xp with qemu

I've bumped into a serious problem with qemu. I can't boot my windows xp cd. I am running ubuntu 8.04 and was following the instructions on ubuntu support page, but each time qemu hangs at this screen:

I can work with other windows, however using top command gives me 97% usage of the CPU. I have tried adding -no-acpi options, or creating *.img without -f modifier but that didn't help.

DSLs iso boots just great and smoothly. I am thinking now that my laptop is just to old for this kind of tricks as it has only 512mb of ram.

You can give virtualbox a try. Most people find it a lot nicer than qemu. I think 512MB of ram is a little lite if you want to run winxp in a virtualized environment but it should run, albeit a little slowly. For running winxp, I've found virtualbox to be the best of the lot for any virtualization software out there, even better than vmware, certainly loads better than qemu.

qemu, virtualization, windows, xp
