Can't boot AMD64X2 with SUSE9.3 64-bit

I have recently upgraded my PC with a Gigabyte GA-K8N nForce4 SLI m/board, AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ 2x512k CPU, 2x1GB DDR400 ram and Gigabyte GV-RX30S128D-B Radeon X300 16xPCIE 64-bit 128MB DDR video card. Also have 2 IDE hard drives + 1 DVD/CDRW + 1 DVD-RW IDE media.

I dual boot WinXP and SUSE9.3 using GRUB. With 32-bit version of SUSE9.3 evrything works fine, all hardware is recognised and working and it sees two CPU's. When I tried installing SUSE9.3 64-bit version (new installation) it failed at the first boot from HD. With the standard kernel, all I get is a blank screen and no response from anything, I have to reset. I tried booting the failsafe kernel, this gives console text output that flashes by, mostly lots of number, and ends with something like "sync failure, kernel died, AIEEEE..." (but I can't be sure exactly what).

I've since re-installed the 32-bit, everything OK but I would like to go with the 64-bit. Any sugestion?

Hi,

I used to have the almost same problem, though I've never installed the 32 bit version. As a matter of fact, after re-installing SuSE for around 4 times, I've got it working correctly (I've installed it with ALL the packages), and didn't do a YOU until everything was working correctly (hardware conf).
