try this:

LD_PRELOAD=/opt/lib32/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

it might be something in between v4l and v4l2,
or your v4lcompat.so is somewhere else.
I guess you tried to set cam in skype after starting with code i gave you first time.

To go to a more basic level, how do you know that your camera is not working? Did you go the the Skype "Options" screen (try a right-click on the Skype tool-bar icon), select the "Video Devices" item, make sure the correct camera is specified, and press the "Test" button). If, for example, you have selected an incorrect video device, Skype will not be able to use the correct one.

of course i checked the options in skype.. there 's selected the right one, problem isn 't there, when i click on "test" "control light"on the camera flashes once, that's all , no video or anything else

i ĺl try the "terminal" idea.. i'm still infected by W, iŽ ve just started with linux (got it less than a week) so i'm still "afraid" to work with terminal,.. but it's better day by day

after starting skype trough terminal, it wrote no such file or directory... that means no driver if i understand, so how does it works in the program cheese... on CD are drivers only for W also on labtec website...

I think that your problem is that you're trying too hard. When cheese works, you have all the necessary drivers installed and working properly. So you should not have needed any additional drives for Skype to run correctly.

Try removing Skype from your system and any drivers you installed trying to get it to work. (IIRC, sudo apt-get remove ... will remove installed applications, but Ubuntu has, I seem to recall, a GUI you can use.) Then check that cheese still works, reinstall Skype from the Ubuntu repository, and then see if it "just works."

ok, removed both... but repositories (adept, synaptic neither kpackagekit) do not find skype...that was the reason, why did i download it from skype official page

i 've chosen the simpliest solution for the problem, that i didn want before - kopete. Camera works in it also with skype... thx everybody for trying to help me but if you have any solution with skype, write here.. i would rather use skype, but now is kopete better than nothing (i will use kopete just for calls, for messaging skype)

Red face Double reported

briezka,

You reported Last_Sioux's post not 1ce, but 2ce, in attempting to quote him. I've seen a fair number of "axireps" (accidental reports) in the short time I have been a moderator, but this is the 1st time I have seen the same one reported 2ce in a row.
  1. You are new here & I'm sure these reports were accidental, but how could you miss the huge note that appears when you click the "Report" button?
  2. LQ takes reported posts seriously, & some mod assigned to this forum had to follow up on your reports & deal w/ them; although in this case no real action was necessary.
  3. Please be more careful in the future.
BTW, it is not necessary to quote an entire preceding post in replying to it. It, the preceding post, is just above yours in the thread. It's the reason for displaying posts in threads. You're cluttering the thread & making your posts less clear.

Thanks for listening.
