Calling all those who have installed SuSE with W2K
 

I've got a machine which has a working W2K partition occupying the whole HDD. Has anyone got SuSE's YAST to repartition such a drive to leave space for Linux to boot?

2nd attempt at getting a Linux machine on my desktop (hardware incompatiblities killed first attempt) :(

I don't thing the install scripts let you resize any partitions.

You will need to get a utility for resizing the W2K partition. Defrag the drive before resizing!

After that you should have enough room to create some partitions and get your distro installed. You may want to create some space at the beginning of the drive for a /boot partition as this will make LILO a little easier to manage.

Anybody out there know how to resize a W2K partition???

I have exactly the same issue with W98. The HD has a single partition allocated to W98 - The YaST2 installation cannot 'shrink' this partition to make room for the new partition.

Tried using fips but this also failed.

So any suggestions would be appreciated by me too.

you can use Gnu Parted. Download it from the website... they even have bootdisks that you can use if you don't already have linux installed. unfortunately it only works on FAT16, 32 and ext2 partitions... no NTFS or ReiserFS..

the partitioning is pretty standard as far as i know. i haven't heard that w2k needs to be partitions in any unusual way.
also, i've never used w2k myself, but everything i've heard says that you generally don't want to use lilo to boot 2k. w2k has it's own boot manager, which can be made to boot linux. for some reason, 2k goes all screwy when it doesn't have control of the mbr, no doubt a tantrum on the part of billy-boy.
