C# programming

Hello there:
Does anyone know if there is a programm to run and compile C# programs
I would really aprecciate your help, I heard it's a micro$oft based thing and I would hate to use windows just for that.
Thanks in advance

I read (or think I read) that Mono is built (or something) upon
C#. Maybe you can look into Mono and see what's up. That's
my wild guess (and I could be wrong). Maybe someone knows
abit more.

Hello:

I do believe C# is only for Windows since you might write all the code and compile it, but other people will need .NET framework in order to run it, and I shouldn't need to say that framework is only in Windows.... I did an app in C# and then when I wanted to show it off nobody could run it... they need the framework, as java app need JVM

Hope it helps

BTW you can use VisualStudio.NET for C# programming...... even tough I recommend Java or C++

I noticed there's a mod_mono for Apache2, and the Mono project has stand-alone compilers for at least C# iirc.

Mono comes with a .NET-almost-compatible framework.

There is also DotGNU, which seems to be a pretty decent implementation of the .Net framework. I haven't used Mono myself, so I can't really offer a good comparison between the two, though.

the mono project

http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/06/30/HNmono_1.html

I'll put together a definite list of tasks to download and compile tonight

when I am seated at my Linux box at home.

Problem: they don't have Forms(windows yet) but.....

I compiled and successfully ran a TCP/IP client/server from Linux C#.mono

to XP Prof C#.NET

mcs tcpip_client.cs

mono tcpip_client.exe
