Suse comes with a compiler. Just launch YAST, and install it from your CD's.

Hi everybody, I seem to have the same problem as faheja (I also use Suse 10.0). I have tryed to use yast to install anything that sort of resembles gcc, make and compiler but nothing seems to change. Maybe I am not installing them the right way with yast or suse don't have the software on the install dvd? I keep getting the same error:

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

If anyone can help, Thanks!!!

The package you need to install is gcc-4.0.2. Search for that using YAST and maybe gcc-c++ as well.

I ran command line: cat /proc/version

Linux version 2.6.13-15-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.0.2 20050901 (p rerelease) (SUSE Linux)) #1 Tue Sep 13 14:56:15 UTC 2005

It says I have version 4.0.2?

I also ran command: rpm -qa make gcc

all I got was:

make-3.80-188

I guess I am missing gcc-4.0.2, but I can't find it in yast.

Nope, it's telling you that the kernel was built with that version of GCC.

Ok, I found a mirror site that had gcc-4.0.2_20050901-3.ppc.rpm. I tried to install it with kpackage and it said:
error: Failed dependencies:
glibc-devel is needed by gcc-4.0.2_20050901-3

I went to the same site and got glibc-devel and when I tried to install it with kpackage it said:
;echo RESULT=$?
package glibc-devel-2.3.5-40 is intended for a ppc architecture

Should I ditch the copy of Suse 10.0 that I got out of Linux-Magazine and download a copy from a mirror site?

Thanks for everyones help but I found my problem. I guess my Linux-magazine Suse 10.0 didn't have everything.
