Buttons not big enough for labels; java windows not big enough for contents
 

This is a curious problem that has become worse recently and I am puzzled by it.

Why would buttons on a 'normal' page not be sized correctly for their labels and how do I fix the problem?

Most of the time, sizing is correct, but some sites generate buttons too small for the content - see 'Screenshot_1.png' attached for an example.

Similarly, some Java components are not sized correctly for their contents - see 'Screenshot_2.png' and 'Screenshot_3.png'attached.

Are these problems somehow linked, such as via a system setting I have wrong and are either or both of them fixable by me?

Any help will be gratefully received.

because some idiot decided to TRY and make the site work on a TELEPHONE and messed things up

open up the browsers text and font settings
and set the font on NO!!!! minimum ( i normally use a 18 point font as the MIN. size )

then use the <control> + <+> to zoom in on the page ( the text WILL!!! be too small to read without zooming in )
and control - to zoom out


then reset the min font size for other pages

Using ctrl+'-' solves the immediate problem with web pages having illegible button labels. All I have to do is shrink the rendered page until the labels appear correctly. It does mean I have to squint a bit, but at least I am able to see what I am doing.

The same action does not work for Java applications, unfortunately. I still have the problem of Java windows often containing 'squashed' components such as the examples I originally posted. Perhaps I need to take my question to a Java support group, but I was hoping it was caused by a Fedora 23 setting I have incorrect.
