I want to burn an iso image using K3B but the burn image window does not show a dvd installed and therfore the start button is greyed out. This is despite the fact that main K3b window does show a new blank dvd installed.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and hopefully how to overcome it?
Sorry to be obtuse but I don't see how that would help. Launching from the CLI installs K3B as usual and if there is a disc in it sees it. It is when I try to burn the iso image another window is created which asks for a dvd to be installed. I even tried to burn a video dvd but the same thing happened. As soon as I try to burn anything it does not see the disc. The disc is new, blank and unformatted.
Try another blank, if possible one from another batch (if you are are trying a DVDs and have some blank CDs, try a CD). If you have access to another computer with a r/w drive, try testing that the blanks are seen in it.
When I burn with KB3, I normally insert the disk and start the program, then wait for K3B to show the disk as loaded in the panel to the upper left (it will change from "no media" to "empty DVD disc" or similar wording) before I select the files to be burned.

The quality of the dvd may also become clear.
Sometimes Burners are not compatible with specific dvd brands.
