Burning data DVD with Knoppix 3.4
I have a XP box that won't reboot. I need to save the documents folder. I've used Knoppix in the past to do so with success. But this time, the Docs folder is veeeeeeeeeeeery big (multiple gigs). I would rather burn to DVD than CD. The XP box does has to optical drives (one DVD burner).
I'm using Knoppix 3.4. I've tryed with K3B but it does not seem to burn data to DVD. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? If K3B is not the right application to burn data DVD, is there another one within Knoppix 3.4 that would do the job? Any other suggestion ? As you probably know by now, I am not a Linux pro, so please, nothing to "console". :-)
Regards,

Chinaman,
Thank you for taking the time to help me. Obviously, they are both the same post...mine. If this is a joke, I don't find it very funny. If it's your way of telling me I can't post twice the same question on 2 different forums, why not just tell me straight out !

Why do you think you can't write dvd's? Does the writing process fail to start, or is the option simply missing?
Knoppix 3.4 is quite capable of helping you recover your files.

When I drop a DVD in the drive, it doesn't seam to recognize it as a DVD. It shows a maximum storage of 700 MB on the media. If I start the process anyway (in simulate mode) it crashes instantly, saying that it's not the right media.
K3B seams able to burn DVD images, but I haven't sean an option to burn data DVDs.

Are you suggesting a way to backup files other than through burning CD or DVDs ?

I meant that dvd burning is one of several options that knoppix gives you.
Is there a dvd icon on your desktop? I'm wondering if knoppix recognized your drive. If it's not there, please post the contents of /etc/fstab. I'm weak on setting up drives, but I'll try to help.

Thats ok. At least you're back in business.
Don't forget to check "verify written data", it's deselected by default iirc
