burning CD-RWs
OK. Ive searched and I havent been able to find anything, probobly because of the generic words that I use.
Anyway, my CD Burner works fine for reading/writing CD-Rs. How do I burn a CDRW . I have a stack of unformatted CD-RWs, and I dont know how to format, and burn them. I realize that they will probobly only be viewable/writable by Linux, but thats ok. I have K3B and X-CD-Roast and I only saw options for erasing CD-RWs, and not burning them. Is it possible to have them burn like in Windows, via drag 'n drop, or at least be able to "multisession", so I can keep using it. Thanks, Contrasutra. |
You use a CDRW exactly like a CDR, that's why you haven't seen any settings - there are none!
Just blank the CDRW, then use it like a CDR. It will be usable in any appropriate drive, the OS you use has nothing to do with it. HTH Steve |
Should I use Muti-session burning? Are there any other settings I should be aware of.

The CD-RW mode you're after is 'packet writing', which distinguishes it from CD-R. It seems that support for this is in its infancy in Linux, but some console-based development is reasonably mature. This means that Drag & Drop is probably not possible yet within a GUI. For more info, have a look at the CD Packet Writing Project for Linux here:
http://packet-cd.sourceforge.net/ and the Linux UDF project here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-udf As Steve said, you can use a CD-RW exactly as you would a CD-R, with the added benefit that you can erase it and start again, which you can not do with a CD-R. Granted, this is not as flexible as Drag & Drop using UDF (as with Windows), but it's still better than burning through CD-Rs. It would seem that Drag & Drop is not too far off though. Geoff. |
Thanks, that clears everything up. Ill probobly be just writing to the CDRW normally, and then erasing it. Since thats most convienent for what Im using it for.
