Building wine RPM
I am not sure if anyone can help me with this one, but when building the latest version of wine, which worked fine, the package size is around four time as large of any other distributor. The package that I built was around 49MBs and the common distribution is about 10MBs. This seems to happen when building any version, and probably any software package.

Is there a means by which a person can compress file sizes while building RPMS, or what am I missing here?

Since there was no reply to this post, on 2005.03.19 I emailed the Marcus Meissner <>, and he replied with the solution. If anyone else out there in linux land is having this problem remember to use strip. Here is what I neglected to add:

strip --strip-unneeded $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/lib/wine/*.so
strip --strip-unneeded $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/bin/*
strip --strip-unneeded $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/lib*

Great Guy :) Thank Marcus
