what are the permissions on the directory? if it's outside of your default html directory path, you will probably also need to declare a <Directory> directive within apache too

Hi thanks for the replay.

the default web dir is /var/www/html

and the dir of the bugzilla is

/var/www/html/bugzilla/

ive managed to change the permissions of the files and i can read them all except for the .cgi files it still says access forbidden.

i addedd the index.cgi to the httpd.conf anlso the addhandler

Also when i type the address for bugzilla in /localhost/bugzilla/ -- the last slash is important if that isnt there the page doesnt open - does anyone know what that could be also?

Thanks for you help

not sure what the standard error messages always are, but what if you actually call index.cgi? maybe it's just denying you a directory listing, not basic access

Hi,

thanks for the reply,

no even if i call the specific file it still says that it is forbidden - its strange its only on the .cgi files, i did this

Code:
find . -type d -exec chmod 755 {};
find . -type f -exec chmod 755 {};
find . -name \*cgi -exec chmod 755 {};
find . -name \*sh -exec chmod 755 {};
Which made all of the other files accessable except for the .cgi ones

hope this helps

Thanks

again it's looking a lot like permissions:
Quote:
index.cgi: mkdir data: Permission denied
remember this is the permission for your apache daemon owner, normally "apache" or "nobody" or something, not root.

ko, it's owned by 501/502... that's presumably not even a real user, or the UID/GID would have been replaced with a real name. they should be owned by your apache user. use chown to change this.

UPDATE

this is a new error now!!

Quote:
Bugzilla is currently broken. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact THE MAINTAINER HAS NOT YET BEEN SET. The error you should quote is: Access denied for user: '@localhost' to database 'bugs' at globals.pl line 140.
Thanks again

### Section 3: Virtual Hosts
#
# VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
# machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
# use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
# IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
#
# Please see the documentation at
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/vhosts/>
# for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
#
# You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
# configuration.

#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#

# Where do we put the lock and pif files?
LockFile "/var/lock/httpd.lock"
CoreDumpDirectory "/etc/httpd"

# Defaults for virtual hosts
# Logs
#

Hi ive got it down to only one error now which that all .cgi extensions are being displayed but not exectuted - if you know what i mean.

Below is an example of the type of error thing that i mean. It is displaying the contents (see blow) in the web broswer instead of the the actual file

use diagnostics;
use strict;

use lib qw(.);

use vars qw(

);

# Include the Bugzilla CGI and general utility library.
require "CGI.pl";

ok well if they're not being executed i think you need to set the directory contain ing the CGI files to be cgiexec.

this example should hopefully help you:
