bug in RPM, but how to fix?

I have rpm version 4.0.3. I'm not sure wether my problems are caused by this or not. It seems that I can't upgrade ANY packages. Even if I try to update a package that already exists, it doesn't tell me it's already installed, it tells me that package-1.2 conflics with package -1.2. Duh, how can a package conflict with itself.I have tried 'rpm --rebuilddb' so many times I am blue in the face. I have seen a few threads related to this on other boards, but no fixes. I suppose I could download the latest version of rpm and install it with --nodeps, but I want to verity that it will be fixed b4 I do.

The problem with rpm or urpmi itself. The dependency errors that it is complaining about are false. Since I did a cooker update i probably have a package that has a nasty bug in it and needs to be updated. The question is what and how (probably a source compile or rpm with --nodeps option)

By the way, I am not a newbie in Linux so don;t be afraid to get technical in your answers..

Thanx all,

You'd be better off doing a search on mandrakes web site to see if this has been resolved.

Thank you. I have looked at the mandrake page, redhat's page and RPM.org's page, but can find nothing.

Anyone else? Is more info needed?
