Exclamation buffer i/o read error from hdd

I am getting that message sometimes when booting from a live cd. I do not know what hdd is since I only have 3 hard drives. They are /dev/hda /dev/hdb and /dev/hdc. It happens most of the time, but sometimes I can successfully boot into Linux. I also get some numbers with the error. I am not sure what the meaning is. Maybe they are locations in memory. Hopefully one of my hard drives is not dying.

Okay, that would make sense since I am using a live cd. Thanks. I'll burn a newer Ubuntu since I was using an old one anyways.

Do you mean that place with slitterbaun, the comal river, the guadalupe river, and it is near San Marcos? Yes, I go there sometimes.
