BSD licensed alternative for fw_setenv fw_printenv

I need to have functions in my driver to access u-boot environment variables, similar to what is done in fw_setenv and fw_printenv. But fw_setenv and fw_printenv as part of U-boot, are GPL licensed. Is there any BSD license code I can use as example to access u-boot environment variable?

Thanks. Andrew

Here is how your question sounds on the receiving end.

I want to create a driver, but the code that I see available requires that I contribute back any changes I make to it. I don't want to do that. Is there any code out there that others have freely given that doesn't require me to reciprocate?
