Browser tries to download localhost/file.php

I'm trying to install some software on a Debian machine that you set up using your web browser. When I go to localhost/install-folder/install.php, the browser prompts me to download the php file instead of loading the page as normal.

I can't for the life of me remember what the solution to this is and was hoping someone here could help. How do I get my browser (Ice Weasel) to load the install.php page correctly? I did verify apache was running by simply going to localhost and got the It Works! index page.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

This has nothing to do with the browser. The problem is that your Apache server doesn't execute PHP but sends it instead. You have to properly configure PHP on your server.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Yves. I don't know how to do that, but I'll figure it out.

Ok, I added AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php to my httpd.conf file and restarted apache, but I'm still having the same problem. index.php was already included on the DirectoryIndex line. I'm lost again...
