Brother MFC-J280W Printer will only print image files, not text files, won't scan.

I have recently acquired a new printer, the Brother MFC-J280W, and have it working on three Windows Laptops, both wirelessly and via USB. however, I can not get it to work correctly with my Linux box, Fedora 15, (well, check my signature). Anyway, it will only print image-type files (.jpg, web pages, gimp files, etc) but not any text files, such as .txt, .odp, .doc, etc. It will not scan either. It works perfect with the windows computers, I am wondering what may have caused this problem with my Linux box? Oh, and I am running it wired via USB.

What printer driver are you running?

This link will take you to the linux driver supplied by Brother.

The bscan4 drivers for the scanner are here -->http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...nload_scn.html

There are instructions to install both sets of drivers.

Yeah, I had the both of them installed, the 64-bit version of the scan-key-tool and the brscan4. since I have a 64-bit OS. I don't know why it doesn't work... I think that the the other one, the printer one, is only 32-bit. in hindsight, that may have been the problem...
Any idea how to get around that?

Woah, major problem. I deleted all printers off my system, hoping that something was configured wrong, and when i plugged my printer back in, it said that it couldn't find any drivers for it, and then the printer disapeared. There is something whacky with the drivers, probably that they are 32-bit... but now i can't print at all...?

UPDATE: i can add a new printer via CUPS, and select the supposed drivers, but neither work. I tested a lot of the pre-installed with Fedora ones, but none of them worked either. I also tried the .ppd file a found in the Brother folder, but nothing works.

Only other thoughts I have are to make sure you have 32 bit compatibility libs installed, try printing again, failing that, I would contact Brother to see if they can help.
