Broken Mandrake

i have just tried to update my system with the MandrakeUpdate utility, about halfway through it died, killed my rpm database and removed my kde menus, and quick run buttons on the kde bar.

i have managed to restore my rpm database by running: rpm -rebuilddb
after i deleted files from /var/lib/rpm that match the __* patteren

now for some reason my shortcuts from my kde bar have the default icon of kde, my kde menu is not there, and when i click the icon that i have for mozilla i get could not find service network/www/mozilla.desktop

i have managed to run menu drake and it successfully displays all the menus that my kde has

does any one have any ideas about how i can restore my menus and icons to kde? or any information on how mandrake update performs its updates?
