Bootsplash Screen, Uh OH!

I just downloaded a bootsplash for Linux from kde-look.org

Heres the page: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=26495

I used this for download and installation:

installation for mandriva
[17:17:41]-[mirec@localhost]-[~] wget http://linux.ic.cz/software/1/ThinkLinux.tar.bz2
[17:20:53]-[mirec@localhost]-[~] tar xvjf ThinkLinux.tar.bz2
[17:23:25]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] cp -R ThinkLinux/ /etc/bootsplash/themes/ThinkLinux
[17:23:30]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] cp -R ThinkLinux/ /usr/share/bootsplash/themes/ThinkLinux
[17:25:06]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] /usr/share/bootsplash/scripts/switch-themes ThinkLinux
[17:25:06]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] wget http://members.optusnet.com.au/rkels....51-i586-1.tgz
[17:30:38]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] tar xvzf lilo-22.3.2.51-i586-1.tgz
[17:30:56]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] cp sbin/lilo /sbin/anililo
[17:31:42]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] anililo
[17:32:18]-[root@localhost]-[mirec] reboot

Now linux boots up fine and goes to the Command console... this is great... I start KDE and it says Cannot access $HOME cannot start kde... Uh Oh? I must love messing up Linux. What did this do and how can I Fix it...
love you alL!

try giving the files the right access rights:

Code:
# chown -R <user/group>.<user/group> <name of the folder>

I did chown -R bdd86 $HOME and when i try to strart KDE it still says Cannot get write permission for $HOME cannot start KDE.

1.) Is this a big problem, what else could this bootsplash could have effected?

2.) How do I get KDE running?

I wrote down the exact error:

command: kde

Loads up the Initallizing Box, gets to connecting interprocess communitcations then freezes..

Error box pops up:

Folloiwng insatll problem while starting KDE:

No write access to $HOME directory (home/bdd86/)

Cannot start KDE

I tried chown -R bdd86:bdd86 $HOME

and I still get there error

Whats Wrong?

Nevermind, I figured it out on my own AGAIN... Thanks... psh

I like to post what I did after I did it so people can search in google and find answers..

Basically, I logged into root. (noptional?)

and did chown -R bdd86(my user name):users /home/bdd86(my user name) and WALA!

I wasnt so much as worried about how to fix this, but WHY this happened and what else it might have screwed up so if Anyone knows what happened I would like to hear from you!

This Forum is great... ! Thanks vegetassj2, I did chown -R bdd86:bdd86 the first time instead of bdd86:users so I figured it out, thanks pal sorry about the mix up.

Dude, chill out. I'm glad you found the answer by yourself, but people are not just waiting around for you to post a question they can answer (btw, I know you're a Contributing Member and I congratulate/thank you). It becomes annoying if you keep posting every hour. Try to make your first post the most informative (e.g., maybe give it the detail of your fifth post), so people perusing the new questions will become interested. Don't expect immediate answers.

Also, it's good to love messing up linux (that's what makes it fun), unless you have a deadline to meet !
