bootloader: can't load xp after deleting dual boot mandriva 2007
i tried out mandriva 2007 on xp home dual boot. it didn't work well so i used gparted live cd to delete the mandriva directories and reallocate space to windows. when i rebooted, it froze on grub. i have a copy of xp home cd and tried to enter the REPAIR mode but it just let me to go c:\windows\ prompt. anyway to reload windows bootloader? thanks.

Do a search of these boards for "fixmbr". The fix is something simple, like running fixmbr at the C: prompt.

When you install grub as part of a Linux setup, it puts the config files on the Linux partition. Delete the partition and Grub is lost.
You have 3 options: BEST: Delete Windows and install a Linux distro that you like (Then proceed to become a guru here) BETTER: Install another Linux distro and let it put in ITS bootloader GOOD: Boot from Windows CD, rescue mode, get to a prompt and type "fixmbr" (We'll miss you, but we will understand) AND: Don't take LQ members too seriously.....;) |
