Booting to Ubuntu 8.4, gives me a command prompt..."BusyBox"????
I receive this message, and a command prompt:
BusyBox V1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5 Ubuntu12) Built-in Shell (ASH) Enter "help" for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs): I downloaded the ISO of version 8.4 Ubuntu. The live CD gives me this message, but works fine if I put the cd in an other computer. I Can get to the desktop, and install if I wanted to, but the computer it is supposed to be for, I cant get the the GUI, just this message. I tried to unplug my hard disk and just read from the CD, but same result. What can I do? Also What is initramfs????? Thanks! |
Being there
I am in NO WAY expert in linux. About 2 weeks ago the same thing happened to me and it was a bad burned cd. Also someone suggested it may be possible the optical drive to be dirty.I burned a new cd and problem solved ( this time I used a cd-rw)

When something goes badly wrong during boot Ubuntu will boot into single user mode and present you with a command prompt. You can use the command line to diagnose and repair whatever went wrong.
You may have to login as root. I don't know whether Ubuntu requires you to do that in single user mode or not. The next thing to do is to issue the command: dmesg | less This will list the boot messages and you can look through the boot messages to see what went wrong during boot. ---------------------- Steve Stites |
