Booting to the console hindered by gdm3

With my debian i386 wheezy desktop I had the surprise of gdm3 display
manager, whereby now the X server is started automatically, without

startx

How should I manage not to have the same situation with one of my
cpu-gpu servers amd64 wheezy? It is usually used for chemical computations from the console, while there is also a dormant X server to be used occasionally with a gpu-enabled graphic program. The X server has not to be started in order that the cpu-gpu calculation can be run. I would like to prevent gdm3 taking place.

thanks

At least, how to kill the X server once gdm3 has started? What happens if the gdm3 package is removed? what a smart idea that of gdm3, it will kill debian, at least by those who use debian for science.
