Booting problem in a system with xp and feodra
I have Fedora core1 and Win XP both installed, but it is going straight to the XP. It is not bringing me to the boot option.Recently, I reinstalld xp in my system after I installed Fedora. Now it just loads up to XP.
I tried to reinstall the grub, but it was saying that there are no fedora installations on my harddisk.I tried the option of repairing with a bootable cd.But in vain. After that, when i tried to reinstall fedora, it says that, unable to open the partition table.
I have some imp info on Linux ext partition. Please tell me how to bring
the system back to the normal state with out the loss of data.

Then if you have friend with Linux take your hard disk to him and try to download the information if his linux will not detect your Linux Partition , the only decision is to format

Try booting with FC1 CD, type: "linux rescue" at boot prompt...
after you got shell, try doing:
# chroot /mnt/sysimage
# grub
> root (hd0,?)
> setup (hd0)
> quit
then reboot...
Note: Replace (?) above with your linux "/" partition or "/boot" partition if you're seperating "/boot" into different partition.
if it still doesn't work, then repeat "linux rescue" booting above, then after getting shell prompt, type:
# fdisk /dev/hda -l
then post the result, I'll see what I can help...

First of all, thank you.I followed the steps given by you.It didn't get succeeded.
But, yesterday, i have installed partiotion magic and asked it to fix the errors in my partition table, if there are any.I came to know that there is some free space (16MB)on my hard disk in extended partition. While i was reinstalling my xp, it got overlapped with the logical partition. So, now it is creating problems .
Partition magic asked me to solve the problem first.
So, i decided to take the back up of all my info,by putting my harddisk
in my friends computer. After that,i'll fix those errors.Next, i'll reinstall the os.
In the process if i need any help, i'll post it in the forum.
Thanks again.

Actually once u reinstall windows(any version) it over writes MBR. So ur GRUB or LILO is over written. So two options are:
1. Use a boot disk(If there is no problem with the partition)
2. Using Boot CD go to rescue mod and reinstall the bootloader. (not the system)
This is juz for info
