Booting Problem

hi
i just installed red hat linux advance server 4 update 2. after installation, when i bot my system, it displays me two options for booting
1) Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.9-22.ELsmp)
2) Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS-up (2.6.9-22.EL)

When i use first option which is the default option, It boots but at the end it doesnt display anything and the LEDs on my key board start to blink.

When i select the second option, it works very fine.

1) What is the difference between these two and why first option doesnt work
2) How can i make 2nd option default

Regards

the 1st option seems to be for multi core /multi processor systems. if you dont have such a set up you can remove it by editing /boot/grub/menu.lst
