booting multiple Linux distros

Hi all,

I have installed Scientific Linux 6.2 on a seperate HDD lately. SL6 is nothing but RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.
I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my first HDD but after the installation of SL6, grub seemed to have changed (replaced) by the one of SL6. I cannot boot to Ubuntu any more.
How may I solve this issue. After some search, there was no specific way to do this.
What makes my problem harder is that I have encrypted my home directory on the HDD which has Ubuntu12.04 and I cannot retrieve any of the files I need to work with in SL6 (SL6 is the distro for my work)

help me please, and thank you in advance,

hi

I am surprised that the bootloader menu for SL6 does not show an entry for your first drive

boot up a live cd such as ubuntu

check that your files on first drive are still there using your file manager

I don't ubunutu so if they don't "automount" the partitions try this

Code:
sudo su
mkdir /z
mount /dev/sda1 /z
----> use your file manager to navigate to /z/boot and check you can see ubuntu kernel then go back to terminal and
umount /z
assuming your boot drive order is ...../dev/sda then /dev/sdb
re-write the current bootloader at sda with a new one

now go back into terminal which has root powers or redo it ....sudo su

Code:
grub-install /dev/sda
reboot to test

aus9,

I did these instruction:
I ran Ubuntu from a LiveCD (any version- does not have to match the installed version)
opena terminal and run:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
then run:
Code:
boot-repair
and it will fix it automatically.

Thank you guys
