Booting from wrong drive
 

Hi all, I have what I'm sure is a simple problem with booting. My system has two SATA drives with multiple boot options. sda1 has a copy of Windows, sdb1 has a stripped-down Windows installation for running Flight Simulator, sda2 has my OpenSuse installation, and sdb3 an installation of PClinuxOS.

If I start my PC normally, it boots up using the menu.lst from the PCLinuxOS - which is broken, but I'm not worried as PCLinuxOS doesn't work that well on my main PC (but it's brilliant on my laptop).

The openSuse installation is the one I set up most recently, including setting boot (I thought) from the MBR. But I can't get into that except by using a live distro. So with the Suse installation DVD in the drive, the DVD menu comes up, I select "boot from hard disk" and up pops the menu.lst from my Suse install. But take out the DVD and boot directly from hard disk and its PCLinuxOS that presents its menu.lst.

I tried grub-install to hd0, which didn't help, so I tried grub-install to hd1 (confident of course that if it wasn't one, it had to be the other - but still no joy.

Just one more point, and I'm not sure whether it's significant, but hd1 = sda and hd0 = sdb. I think that's cos I swapped over the SATA cables some time ago.

Check you,re bios setting what order is of booting is
1 first boot option
2 second and
so on

My first boot option is dvd than the hard drive

So if put a install or live cd or dvd in the dvd drive it start up from the dvd drive So I can make my hdd as first boot option

It is always possible to change in some thing else.

Thanks for that, but I think I haven't described the problem very well.

My boot order is as I want it, the problem is that on boot from hard disk, it's the wrong hard disk that boots. I can work round that by booting from a live CD then choosing the option "boot from hard disk" - which then boots from the correct hard disk.

is the first The first master hd is the first option
