Bootabe USM memory stick

I have a small Linux program on a CD-r the system will boot off of and run when the drive is selected as a boot device. I want to put the program onto a 256meg hawking memory stick, and have it bootable.

If i use a windows 98 machine and sys /s the usb drive my machine will boot to a command promt off of it, so I know i have the capabilities to boot off the memory stick.

How can i write the linux based cd-r over to a memory stick (bootable area and all) so it will become bootable in the same way? Im up for anything, it would be *really* handy to have this work. Any ideas folks? Thanks!

There are instructions for adapting knoppix variations to boot off a USB drive, you maybe be able to use it to get an idea how to do it for your system:
