Boot usb volume from CDROM with Grub

Hello all,

i have a drive usb with Ubuntu 7.10 installed; it work fine with my pc and run without problem with syslinux as bootloader. Sometime i'll work outside my office with hardware too old and with great limitations, and my drive usb wont start. To resolve this problem i build a CDROM with grub pre-installed and a minimal menu.lst, only few voice; the idea is to start my drive usb from this CD. I tested the cd and it start well. Now the great problem for me is to configure correctly the drive usb to intercept Grub menu selection.

Is there anyone can help me, with example ecc ..?

Many many thanks
Marco

I think that the problem is the devices.map file, you may set it up to point to some sd*, say from sda to sdh, so you can start virtually on any computer (very few computers have more than 7 hard drives...).
