boot partition

why is it that we have to install the boot partition within the 1024 cylinders of the harddisk.

that's only on older distributions, and it's because the 8.4gb limit was a significant type of hardware specification, and anything over that size needed a more complex type of harddrive and bios to get teh size out of it, so that limit was always there. But it's not an issue any more.

New Versions refers to the distribution of linux. New versions support larger hard drives.

Its not the age of your hard drive that is in question, its what distro are you using.

For me mandrake 8.1 should not be a problem on my 20 gig drive
