/boot mysteriously empty, but i can still boot into Linux/WinXP via grub.
I recompiled my kernel to include network support and when i went to move the image to /boot and update grub, the dives is mysteriously empty. Funny thing is that the compy still boot perfectly well. Needless to say I'm at a loss how this works and really freaked out. I have check via knoppix that the drive isn't faultly (booting should prove that) but i just cant figure out what i have done. How can i go about finding out more on what has happened. I haven't touched fstab so it should not have changed it mount point or anything like that.
I have previously been able to see the contents of this drive but I'm just really confused now. Perhaps recompiling the kernel did something? Any help appreciated.

Or to state it another way, make sure /boot is mounted.

The content of your /boot is hided. Try to start bash and type : cd /boot
dir
Maybe you don't have the permission to view the /boot content for security reason, try pasting some file there and see if the file is shown in /boot.
type ls -l in /
then " chmod a=rwx boot

this is the relevant line in my fstab file (interesting enough there is an error msg while starting "Some local file systems failed to boot")
Windows is on hda linux on b
/dev/hdb1 /boot ReiserFS defaults,noatime,notail 1 1
the noatime and notial are there to make booting faster (i think)
i have
/dev/hdb2 / ReiserFS defaults 0 1
for the rest of the parts and they are visible no problem
as for can see things there, maybe, i copied my new kernel there but couldn't see anything else which brought my focus to the problem in the first place
my inclination is those number at the end are doing something so ill check them out
