Boot log

Where can I find some kind of text file that logs what happens at the boot. Because I have trouble connecting to the Internet and it says setting up PPP0 [FAILED] (time out) but after that there are 3 other fails, at the very end of the startup and I do not have the time to read it and I 've already tried to press pause but that doesn't stop the machine.

Try:
Code:
dmesg
You can also take a look at: /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages

thx
Wannes
