Boot Disk does NOT WORK
I have Mandrake Linux 8.1 installed on my system. I tried to create a boot disk both during and after the installation. when I try to boot using the disk the boot: cannot find the initrd. img file
I checked the initrd folder and it is empty. I checked to initrd.img file on the diskette and it is also empty. Need Help |
Could you try to make a boot disk using
mkbootdisk kernel_version command? Is it better or still in trouble? |
Your not the only one
I have exactly the same problem and tried to make a boot disk and still get that empty file.
Can someone please help us newbees. with a step by step simple solution in creating a working boot disk. |
There are different versions of bootdisk. Some you use just to get to your system. Some are more sophisticated, they include not only kernel, but also a filesystem with useful utilities. The detailed description can be found in Bootdisk-HOWTO.
In general, I prefer to have special kernel copmiled for a boot disk, with as little as possible. |
I went into the shell and tried to run the bootdisk command. I got a response that bash does not know that command. I went to the Unix man pages when I clicked on mkbootdisk the area that came up was blank. all of the other commands had an explantion except that one.
Could you tell me where I can find bootdisk HOWTO because I don't see anything like that on my system |
