bluetooth headset and Skype

I'm wondering if this is possible: I'm using Skype in Debian with a headset and would like to use it with a bluetooth headset. Could this be done? are there drivers for bluetooth headsets?

Regards

It depends if your headset is supported by Linux. If you connect it and restart KMix (or whatever you use) and see both the headset and your sound card there, it will work with Skype and is most likely /dev/dsp1

I haven't bought a bluetooth headset yet, so any suggestions would be welcome!

I would suggest a USB headset instead. Sure wires get annoying, but they work great. I use a Playstation 2 online headset, and it works great.

I got my bluetooth headset working with skype using the bluetooth-alsa driver from http://bluetooth-alsa.sourceforge.net/

Brilliant! what headset are you using?

Hi
I've a HBH-200 (Sony Ericsson).
I used a combination of the instructions on the bluetooth-alsa website and further tips/tricks from the gentoo forums

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...f123fb29ce9c2d

I'll check around, and if there's no howto knocking about anywhere, I might post one up if I get the time.

Any luck on a howto?

Thanks for reminding me - I've a new computer, and need to have a go at setting it up again. I'm very busy for next few days, but promiss I'll do it.
Don't feel scared to nudge me if it doesn't appear soon.

So much to do, so little time. Sigh.

Hi!

I haven't had that much luck with this topic...I've come this far:
I built the btsco package successfully:

Code:

aquamaniac:/usr/src/btsco-0.41 # ls
.            alsa-plugins    btsco2        config.sub    .libs
..            AUTHORS        btsco2.c      configure    libtool
a2dp.h        autom4te.cache  btsco2.o      configure.in  ltmain.sh
a2play        avdtp          btsco.c        contrib      Makefile
a2play.c      avrcp.h        btsco.o        COPYING      Makefile.am
a2play.o      avrecv          ChangeLog      COPYING.LIB  Makefile.in
a2recv        avrecv.c        config.guess  depcomp      missing
a2recv.c      avrecv.o        config.h      .deps        NEWS
a2recv.o      bootstrap      config.h.in    INSTALL      README
acinclude.m4  bt              config.log    install-sh    sbc
aclocal.m4    btsco          config.status  kernel        stamp-h1

when I execute make install and try to load the module with
"sudo modprobe btsco" as suggested here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=75978, I get

FATAL: Module btsco not found.

so where does this module come from?
at least I discovered that when I do

/usr/local/bin/btsco -v 00:0B:2E:20:EC:BE

at least I get

Error: control open (hw:1): No such device
Error: Can't find device. Bail

should the headset be in pairing mode when I issue the above command?

would be really nice to be able to use the headset with skype! Please, give a hint, where to search further...

cheers,
bbking

I just got a Motorola hs820 bluethooth headset and a usb dongle for skype and have no clue how to get the two talking. Any advice? Tips? Anything? I just want to talk on Skype.

I am in the same boat. I have a new laptop coming, and I want to buy a bluetooth earbud headphone set ( Nokia HS-12w earbuds )to wirelessly listen to mp3's while I code/surf on it.

The BTSCO looks hopeful, but so far I cannot find confirmation it would work.

Yha but don't you have to recompile the kernel to try that?

BTW what kind of coding do you do?
