blue screen of playback

Something strange has happened with the movie playback in both mplayer and xine.
Yesterday movie playback was fine, but today all I get is a blue screen. I've tried with both user and root. The only way I can see the movie playback is when I use x11 driver instead of xv/sdl driver.
The sound still plays.

I have not updated xine or mplayer or xserver or anything. How can things suddenly stop working?
So what's up?

thx

Try mplayer from the command line (if you are using the GUI version) and see what error messages you get.

Have a look for a more recent driver for your video card maybe? Nvidia is it? Otherwise I have no clue.
