blocking via IP? and names on my block list still messege me.

ok im using gaim to chat in yahoo rooms and the bots are killing me. names i can see on my block list are still IM'ing me somehow, why? how?

and it's dawned on me that i can see some people's IP addresses with gaim in yahoo. so that said, is there any way i could, say block bots and spammers via IP and cut them off a router at a time?

ipfw/iptables - there are a zillion howtos on the subject (google) which should help you get started, but if you need specific help after making sure you have the firewall installed and enabled check back with specifics.
