blender shut down when calling render

Hi, just downloaded Blender but some troubles

I can use it but as soon as i try the render ( or F12 ) option it just shut down.

I also have a message on start up ... about .blanguages (or similar )missing.

Quite strange as Blender is in my home directory an .blender file is present.

I have the same problem with most applications (games) that use openGL. I have an idea how to fix it on my system, I just have not done it yet. You need opengl installed. (See this faq for details http://ls7-www.cs.uni-dortmund.de/~h...pengl-faq.html)
To see if I am correct try running other applications that use openGL (eg supertux, chromium, ......), some of them have options to use openGL so check that before making conclusions.

Do you by any change have a nvidia graphics card? Nvidia discribe this exact situation in their documentataion.

Hope This Helps

first off .blanguages shouldn't cause you an issue, I have the same warning pop up when I start upBlender 3D and I have no issues rendering.

A couple questions for you:

Is openGL installed and is 3D support working with your video card?
As Avitar33 says you will want to make sure you have openGL support.

How are you starting Blender 3D?
If your starting Blender 3D through the GUI try opening up a shell and starting it that way so that when Blender crashes on you you can then check the shell terminal and see what it says.

Which rendering engine are you trying to use? Blender 3D can use its own rendering engine or the Yafray engine. Try using a different render engine, note that to use yafray you will have to install it first here is the link.

let us know how things turn out.

Thanks for all those replies

Most games are working ok, i am not a big gamer but i have tried chromium, tux racer and frozzen bubble without any problem.

Blender was started both ways ( gui and shell ) with the same result ... i have an error message with shell, unclear but as the word radeon is there i suppose problem is linked with my video card.

I run the blender information test, but the result was ok and Mesa was detected.

Will let you know.

Not that it's a big issue but to stop the .Blanguages message popping up you need the .Blanguages file in your home directory. It'll be somewhere in the installation directory, just copy it to your ~/ directory. That should sort that issue out.

Sorry Mickyg, but as said before blender is in my home directory

This is the message i get in shell mode :

./blender
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2
blender: radeon_vtxfmt.c:1061: radeonVtxfmtUnbindContext: Assertion `v b.context == ctx' failed.
Aborted

If somebody has a clue

Radeon is you video card, for some reason blender does not like the 3D/Video driver you are using. when did you install your video driver last?

If it has been a while or you don't remember installing one you will need to go to ATI or you distro's web site and try to find the most recent ATI Radeon driver for linux and install it. The latest one should work fine since ATI just did a overhaul on it's Linux driver so that it would work with the Linux version of Doom 3.

here is ATI's Download Site

Thanks to all of you, found the solution.

To display a rendering, blender open an extra window ... this is a default setting.

That extra window crashes Blender when using some video cards ( ATI, Nvidia )

Deactivating "Dispview" button in the display buttons will not allow an extra window, but will display the rendering in the main window ( in object mode only ).

Hope will help ( i simply found the solution in Blender site !! )

Thanks again
