blender help menu

Hi everyone,
I wondered if anyone of you in to Blender could give me a hand.
When I try and get help from the menu I keep getting the following error message on the terminal:

pier@darkstar:~$ blender
pier@darkstar:~$ Using Python version 2.3
Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix>
Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix>
Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>]
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
No installed Python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run.
Continuing happily.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 41, in ?
ImportError: No module named webbrowser

Blender quit

Does this depend on the fact that I installed a binary Slack package?
Would it be possible to get it sorted out?

Thanks for any help,
Pier
